Doc Martin received his Ph.D. in Theoretical Chemical Physics from the University of Chicago, where he authored scientific programs in C and Fortran using the Cray supercomputer. His company, Aardvark (later acquired by Google), developed statistical machine learning techniques (SVM, NLP, etc.) for search.
